Information for Candidates

 

ELM International School is located in the residential district of Roushdy, The school benefits from easy access to local resources. The School is overseen by a Board of Directors.

 

The School aims to offer the highest quality of progressive education to the local and expatriate communities; the students range from the ages of 1.5 to currently age 9. Our youngest pupils are taught in the Seedlings Program and are nurtured in warm and caring surroundings.

 

Our children come from many nationalities, but we benefit from having a very stable, family orientated school community.  We have high expectations and are working hard to keep raising achievement at all levels in the school. Enthusiastic, teachers of all ages and experience give our pupils every support, both academically and socially.

 

THE CURRICULUM

Native teachers deliver the renewed UK National Curriculum for Maths and English and the International Primary Curriculum. Other specialist teachers teach the Religious and Character Development Programs and the French/PE curriculum. ICT is used in lessons and planning is cross curricular to incorporate this so that IT skills are taught throughout the year. Local Egyptian staff teach Arabic.

 

GENERAL DUTIES

The working day is 8 am – 4 pm so that teachers are in school at least 15 minutes before the start of the school day for children, and are available after school for meetings. Dependant on the Key Stage, teachers normally have a teaching timetable of around 70-75%, depending on subjects and levels taught, and other responsibilities.  We aim for all teachers to have a good amount of non-contact time during each day. Teachers are expected to do playground and lunchtime duties, on a rota basis. They may also be required to cover for absent colleagues. The school year 2014 – 2015 runs from the beginning of September to the middle of July

All teachers are expected to communicate with the students in English at all times, except in language classes.
