International-mindedness is:

  • Respect for yourself, and respect for others, whether the context is the classroom or the whole world.
  • Knowing where you come from but also being a global citizen.
  • An equitable appreciation of the all the different nationalities, languages, and cultures the world has to offer.

The Values Program at ELM

ELM International School is committed to developing the character of its children as part of its three principles “Student-centered learning, Technology as a tool, and Being Internationally minded+ locally rooted”.

The Values program is a unique program being developed at ELM International School based on the IPC Personal Goals, research into character development, and existing local and international values and character development programs.  The Values program continues to evolve to reflect actual successful application with the children.

Our motto for raising the next generation of leaders is “Education, Leadership, Morals”. All teachers are committed to promoting the values pertaining to “Education, Leadership, Morals”, referring to them when possible during their instruction and often rewarding behaviors using charts, house points, and other methods. These values comprise the 8 IPC values: Enquiry, Resilience, Adaptability, Cooperation, Communication, Morality, Thoughtfulness, and Respect.  Approximately each month, as part of the Values program, we will focus on one of the 8 values. We also have dedicated time as a “values” lesson to explicitly discuss the values at hand. We will be updating the online classroom with more information and resources to keep parents up to date with what is happening in the Values program at school.

Developing the character of our children is much like growing a garden; it takes much effort and patience, and the fruits might only be reaped after years of tending to it. Raising our children requires a synergy of effort and cooperation between the child, school, and parents. Your input as parents is essential, and we encourage you to continue the discussion on values at home and to help your child reflect the consequences of applying these values. Parent input will always be welcome to continually improve outcomes of the values program for our children.

Adaptability: It’s ok to change.

Cooperation: Helping, sharing, teamwork.

Communication: Getting through to others and listening well.

Morality: Think about what is right and wrong and why.

Thoughtfulness: Thinking about the consequences of my actions on myself and others.

Respect: Treat others as you wish to be treated. Respect the environment.
